Preparing for Surgery

Check-in

Upon arrival, you will check in with the receptionist and then you will take a seat in the lobby until a member of our staff takes you to the pre-op area.

In the Pre-Op Area

You will be weighed and sign additional consent forms. You will be directed to your patient room. Here you will change into a gown. A nurse will review your medical information and an IV may be started depending upon the type of procedure you are having. You will have a chance to speak with your physician and anesthesia provider before your procedure.

In the Operating Room

You are the most important person in the operating room. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities. If you have questions or concerns, please ask your nurse. When you arrive in the operating room, the lights may seem bright and the temperature cool, but we have warm blankets available to you.

After Your Surgery

When your procedure is completed you will be take to one of our recovery rooms and carefully monitored until you are fully alert. Recovery time is highly individualized; generally you will be ready to leave the surgical center within 1-3 hours following the completion of your procedure. At the appropriate time a family member or friend may join you in your recovery room. You will receive specific discharge instructions, both verbal and written, before you leave the surgical center.

Going Home

You must make arrangements to have an adult family member or friend drive you home. We must cancel your surgery if you are unable to make these arrangements. It is important that you have someone stay with you for the first night after surgery, just in case you need any assistance. Should you have any questions about your discharge instructions or recovery, please call your physician. If you experience, severe pain, bleeding, fever or nausea after surgery, consult your physician immediately. If your physician is not available, call the nearest hospital emergency room.

A member of our staff will attempt to contact you the day after your procedure to check on your progress and answer any questions that you may have. If your procedure is on a Friday, you will be contacted on Monday.
